IN THE GALLERIES

Boutique Galleries
Special Exhibits throughout the Box Factory
Alcove Gallery: Tom Burtonwood (b. United Kingdom) is a Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist, curator, and educator. He/they are Associate Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Burtonwood makes drawings, work on canvas, animations, and sculpture. When he is not working on some suitably baroque creative system he is likely to be found working in his garden or playing early 1990’s old skool and hardcore at the local disco.
Lobby Gallery: Matthew Brett is a Chicago-based artist and visual designer. Matthew holds a BFA in Graphic Design and Illustration from Kent State University. He is a long-time meditation practitioner and the owner and creative director of Substance, a Chicago visual design studio.
His two pieces are from the series Forty Buddhas, based on the Buddhist tradition of meditating on forty specific objects to cultivate concentration. They also stem from an ongoing fascination with cairns, those stacked stones encountered on trails that serve as both markers and memorials to the departed. The fact that cairns resemble seated Buddhas feels central to their story, reminding us to stay present rather than lost in memory or anticipation.
Long Gallery: Di Seely is a third-floor studio artist at the Box Factory. Color and texture are emphasized in her abstract acrylic paintings, and her studio time is spent in practice and experimentation with a variety of techniques and processes.
Stone’s Throw Member Gallery: Patrick Sheehan will be displaying his paintings and found object art in the Stone’s Throw Member Gallery on the Riverwalk Level.
